This term has been one of the most exciting yet for Rugby School Japan sport, marked by rapid growth, memorable fixtures, and outstanding demonstrations of RSJ values across every team.
We are proud to share that our competitive fixture calendar has increased by almost two-thirds compared with last year, giving our pupils significantly more opportunities to represent the school and experience competitive sport in a meaningful and authentic way. From basketball and football to rugby festivals and tournaments, our students have embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and determination.

A major highlight was the introduction of our first-ever full-contact rugby fixtures for the Junior Boys. This is an important milestone in the development of rugby at RSJ, and the boys rose to the occasion with maturity, courage, and real commitment. Their performances laid a strong foundation for the years ahead and showcased how far we have come in such a short time.
Our two major events of the term – Derby Day vs Malvern College Tokyo and Derby Day vs Harrow Appi – were superb celebrations of school sport. The atmosphere at both events was electric, with pupils, staff, and families coming together to support each other and enjoy a full day of high-quality competition. Across all sports and age groups, RSJ pupils displayed exceptional integrity, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship – qualities that sit at the heart of our school ethos.

Alongside these marquee events, we hosted spirited basketball festivals, competitive football fixtures home and away, and rugby coaching clinics led by ex-Scotland Rugby Captain and British & Irish Lion, Greig Laidlaw. Each event contributed to the momentum and pride growing within RSJ sport.

As we look ahead, we are immensely proud of the progress our students have made and the culture of positivity and aspiration that continues to build across the department. This has been a term defined not just by results, but by character, connection, and the joy of representing Rugby School Japan.
