Saturday 26th April, Senario House Field, Misato
Last Saturday saw the return of the biggest House event of the year – RSJ Sports Day. With students from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 competing, and Year 12 students helping run the events, the athletics stadium at Senario House Field was buzzing with excitement, anticipation and colour.
The atmosphere was ELECTRIC from the very start – a powerful mix of nerves, pride, and sheer energy that you could feel from the moment the House parade circled the track. For many students, this was their first real taste of a proper British-style Sports Day, and they embraced it with everything they had.
The day followed the traditional format, with students competing across track and field events to earn points for their Houses. The crowd – made up of students, staff, and parents – roared from the stands, waving banners and belting out chants as runners crossed the finish line and jumpers hit personal bests.
As ever, competition was fierce. No one wanted to let their House down. But what stood out even more than the performances was the camaraderie on display – students pushing each other to do better, congratulating opponents, and throwing themselves into every moment of the day.
By early afternoon the final events of the day began. And, in what will now become a Rugby School Japan tradition, the Inter-Year Relay brought the crowd to their feet – one student from each year group combining for a 4 x 100m sprint. House pride was on the line and the cheers from the stands could be heard all the way back in Kashiwanoha.
Finally, with every last point tallied, silence fell as the results were announced…
🏆 Boys’ House Champions = School House
🏆 Girls’ House Champions = Tudor House
The trophies were collected by those House’s Sports Day Captains – Einar K. for School House, and Niika S. for Tudor.
Whilst we celebrate the winners, it’s equally important to recognise the efforts of every single student who competed, supported, or helped make the day what it was. The pride, passion, and sportsmanship on display laid the foundation for what will undoubtedly become one of the great legacy events of Rugby School Japan.
Until next year…
