RSJ Chemists Shine in National Olympiad

We are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of our A-Level Chemistry students in this year’s UK Chemistry Olympiad.

On 23rd January, five of our talented chemists put their skills to the test in Round 1 of this prestigious competition. We are proud to announce that all five students achieved awards – a fantastic accomplishment in what is known to be an exceptionally challenging paper, designed to stretch students far beyond the A-Level syllabus.

Special congratulations go to Maxi (Year 13) and Ryu (Year 12), who both earned Gold Awards, a distinction achieved by only the top 8.2% of over 16,000 candidates worldwide.

Our successful participants were:

  • Maximo (Year 13)
  • Ryu (Year 12)
  • Eleanor (Year 12)
  • Xitong (Year 12)
  • Izzy (Year 12)

This year’s Olympiad challenged students with a wide range of topics, from Raman spectroscopy to the properties of the hypothetical compound BrAt, requiring them to apply their knowledge in innovative and creative ways.

This latest success follows strong performances in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge for Lower Sixth (C3L6) and reflects the broader commitment of our Chemistry Department to inspire academic excellence and encourage students to explore the subject well beyond the curriculum.

We are incredibly proud of all five students for their ambition, resilience, and enthusiasm for chemistry, and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve next.
