Derby Day at Rugby School Japan was a wonderful celebration of school sport, spirit, and community. Across every venue, RSJ pupils demonstrated our core values of Respect, Aspiration, Integrity, and Kindness, creating a positive and memorable day for both schools.
Throughout the swimming, pupils showed outstanding determination and teamwork. Powerful efforts in the water, supportive encouragement from teammates, and moments of high excitement in close races all contributed to an uplifting atmosphere that showcased the very best of RSJ sport.
The football fixtures were marked by strong camaraderie, high work rate, and impressive resilience. Teams approached their matches with maturity and discipline, adapting well to challenges and consistently supporting one another on and off the pitch. Their attitude and togetherness were clear examples of Aspiration and Integrity.
Basketball fixtures across junior and senior teams demonstrated significant development in skills, structure, and game understanding. Junior players showed real bravery and a willingness to take on new challenges, while senior teams delivered focused, tactically aware performances with disciplined defence and effective teamwork. Their positivity, effort, and commitment to improving reflected the spirit of growth we strive to instil.
On the badminton courts, players demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Competitive rallies, thoughtful partnerships, and encouraging interactions between teammates created a warm and respectful environment, embodying both Kindness and Respect.
What stood out most throughout the day was not the results but the conduct of our pupils – how they supported one another, responded to challenges, and represented the school with pride. Derby Day highlighted the power of sport to bring people together and reinforced the values that sit at the heart of our community.
