A Partnership Rooted in Shared Values

Sport has long held an important place within the Rugby School tradition, not simply as competition, but as a meaningful part of education itself. The playing field has always been one of the environments in which young people learn some of life’s most important lessons: how to lead with humility, persevere through challenge, support others, and respond constructively to both success and disappointment.

At Rugby School Japan, this belief continues to sit at the heart of our approach to whole person education. Sport is not viewed as separate from learning, but as one of the many ways in which pupils develop confidence, resilience, self-discipline, and strength of character.

It is for this reason that we are delighted to announce a new strategic collaboration between Rugby School Japan and Liverpool FC International Academy Japan, bringing together two historic British institutions with a shared commitment to the development of young people both on and beyond the field.

While Rugby School and Liverpool FC are globally recognised within very different traditions, the values underpinning this partnership are closely aligned. Both organisations place great importance on ambition, integrity, teamwork, personal growth, and the belief that meaningful development extends beyond technical ability alone.

Through this collaboration, Liverpool FC International Academy Japan will work alongside Rugby School Japan to deliver a football programme rooted in the club’s internationally respected academy methodology, while remaining fully integrated within the wider educational life of the School. Importantly, the programme will operate within Rugby School Japan’s educational philosophy and safeguarding framework, ensuring that pupil wellbeing and holistic development remain central throughout.

The partnership will provide pupils with access to specialist coaching, regular training opportunities, and structured pathways for football development, alongside invitational tournaments, enrichment provision, and broader sporting experiences. It will also incorporate leadership, mindset, and performance education, reflecting a shared understanding that character development and athletic development should go hand in hand.

Perhaps most importantly, however, this partnership reflects something broader about the kind of educational environment we seek to provide at Rugby School Japan. We believe young people benefit enormously from opportunities that challenge them, inspire ambition, and expose them to high levels of expertise and mentorship. Whether in the classroom, through the arts, outdoors, or on the sports field, these experiences help pupils discover new strengths within themselves and develop the confidence to pursue excellence with humility and purpose.

As this partnership begins, we look forward with great excitement to the opportunities it will create for our pupils and the wider community in the years ahead.

As part of this new collaboration, Rugby School Japan and Liverpool FC International Academy Japan will also be launching a 2026 Summer Football Camp, taking place from Tuesday 11th to Thursday 13th August. Delivered jointly by Liverpool FC International Academy Japan’s coaching team and RSJ staff, the programme will provide young players with the opportunity to experience high-quality coaching within the wider ethos of whole person development that underpins both organisations.
