A Weekend of Sport at RSJ

Last weekend, our campus came to life with competitive sports as pupils took part in basketball, football, and swimming fixtures, all hosted at Rugby School Japan.

Our basketball teams’ first league games of the season took place on Friday night against Lycee School. The atmosphere was electrifying, as the performance was being held in front of a large crowd under the lights of the sports hall. Lycée Français are traditionally a very strong basketball school, and while previous encounters have often resulted in heavy defeats, this year’s games were all much more closely contested, demonstrating the improvement of both our junior and senior teams.  Defensive effort and teamwork were outstanding throughout, a real credit to Mr Muston, Mr Murray, and the entire basketball coaching team. Special congratulations go to the Junior Boys, who defeated Lycee in a thrilling, nail-biting game.

On the football field, our Senior Boys football team competed in a challenging tournament, demonstrating resilience and determination throughout the day. After a group-stage loss to Lycee, our team demonstrated incredible resilience by overcoming DSTY 2-1 in the semi-final. They faced Lycee again in the final and produced a much-improved performance, taking the match to extra time and then penalties. Although they narrowly missed out on victory, the overall performance was excellent, thanks to Mr Lounici for his coaching and preparation.

A Junior Swimming Gala against Malvern College Tokyo also took place over the weekend. This event highlighted the RSJ swim squads’ ongoing development. RSJ pupils demonstrated strong teamwork, resilience, and encouragement throughout. Mixed-school medley teams added a positive spirit of sportsmanship to the competition. Cassie Hailes deserves all the praise for her excellent planning and direction of the swimming program, which keeps growing.
