The Mid-Autumn Festival has long been a time for reunion, reflection, and gratitude — a moment to pause beneath the full moon and appreciate the people who make our lives brighter. At Rugby School Japan, this year’s celebration beautifully captured that spirit of togetherness.
Pupils gathered on Webb-Ellis for an evening of lantern painting, moon gazing, and sharing traditional Chinese desserts lovingly prepared by our Sixth Formers. The older pupils’ gesture of preparing these treats for the younger ones was a touching reflection of the brotherhood and sisterhood that runs deep through our Houses.
For many, the evening also stirred personal memories:
“When I grew up, the Mid-Autumn Festival was one of my most loved festivals because I got to play with lanterns with my cousins,” shared RSJ’s MFL teacher, Maggie Wong. “It was nice to see my childhood relived in some of the pupils last night.”
What made the festival even more special were the pupils who volunteered to lead the activities such as the lantern painting activity. Their thoughtful contributions and commitment made the evening meaningful for everyone.
Just as the moon shines equally on all corners of the world, our celebration reminded us of the shared values that unite our global community at RSJ: gratitude, connection, and the joy of celebrating each other’s traditions.
