Over the weekend, Rugby School Japan welcomed Malvern College Tokyo for a morning of friendly competition across football, badminton, basketball and swimming.
With a lively atmosphere across the School, Derby Day gave pupils the opportunity to represent their schools, challenge themselves and compete alongside their peers. While the matches and events brought plenty of excitement, the day was about more than the results. It was an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the two schools through a shared love of sport and a mutual commitment to competing in the right spirit.
At the close of the day, three awards recognised different aspects of the occasion:
Gryphon Award – Sportsmanship
Webb Ellis Award – Sporting Performance
Derby Award – Character and Contribution
Together, these awards celebrated not only sporting performance, but also the respect, teamwork, resilience and character pupils demonstrated throughout the competition.
We are grateful to Malvern College Tokyo for joining us and look forward to building on this relationship through future Derby Days. As the fixture continues to grow, we hope it will remain an opportunity for pupils from both schools to challenge themselves, celebrate one another’s achievements and appreciate the value of sport beyond the final result.
