Fifteen Rugby School Japan pupils recently travelled to Da Nang, Vietnam, to take part in the World Scholar’s Cup Global Round, joining hundreds of young scholars from around the world.
Across the Junior and Senior divisions, our pupils competed in a range of challenges, including collaborative writing, debating, academic quizzes, and subject-specific challenges.
Among their achievements were:
Team Writing: 2nd place in the Junior division and 3rd place in the Senior division
Individual Writing: 2nd place in Junior and 5th place in Senior
History Challenge: 3rd and 6th place in the Senior division
Social Studies Challenge: 10th place in the Senior division
Individual Writing & Debate: Gold medals across both Junior and Senior divisions
Beyond the results, the competition gave our pupils the opportunity to put their knowledge to the test in unfamiliar settings. They had to think quickly, communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and engage with ideas and perspectives from pupils around the world.
For RSJ, these experiences are an important part of developing the Whole Person. They encourage pupils to pursue their interests beyond the classroom while building the confidence, curiosity, resilience, and openness needed to thrive in a wider world.
We are incredibly proud of all 15 pupils for the enthusiasm and determination they brought to the competition. And, of course, they did not return home empty-handed: alongside their medals and memories, each pupil brought back a new alpaca friend.
