Finishing the Year with Curiosity and Purpose

As the academic year draws to a close, our pupils continue to embrace opportunities that challenge them to think beyond the classroom. The final weeks of term have been filled with experiences that encouraged them to explore future possibilities, pursue their academic interests, and engage confidently with the wider world.

Careers DaY

Our annual Careers Day welcomed an inspiring group of parents and guest speakers who generously shared their professional experiences with pupils. Representing a variety of fields including artificial intelligence, journalism, data science, public service, and international business, they offered an honest glimpse into the many different pathways available after school.

Alongside these conversations, representatives from the Bai Xian Asia Institute (BXAI) introduced pupils to international scholarship programmes and discussed how studying abroad can create opportunities for cultural exchange, global collaboration, and lifelong professional networks.
Rather than focusing solely on choosing a future career, the day encouraged pupils to reflect on the qualities and transferable skills that underpin success across every profession. It was a valuable reminder that adaptability, curiosity, communication, and a willingness to keep learning are just as important as the destination itself.

Academic Conference

The Year 10 Academic Conference provided pupils with the opportunity to showcase the culmination of two terms of independent research. Working around this year’s theme of “Voice,” pupils selected topics that interested them personally before producing a 1,500-word academic paper and presenting their findings to an audience.

We were delighted once again to welcome pupils and staff from Waseda Jitsugyo High School, whose participation added further depth to the discussions and encouraged the exchange of ideas between the two schools.

Congratulations to this year’s prize winners and highly commended pupils. More importantly, every presenter demonstrated the dedication, resilience, and intellectual confidence required to carry out sustained research, communicate complex ideas clearly, and engage thoughtfully with questions from the audience.

Together, Careers Day and the Academic Conference illustrate the breadth of opportunities available at RSJ. Whether exploring future professions or investigating academic questions in greater depth, our pupils are continually encouraged to think independently, embrace challenge, and develop the confidence and character that will serve them well beyond their time at school.
