This term, pupils in Years 7 and 8 had the exciting opportunity to take part in a series of creative workshops led by award-winning UK comic artists and illustrators Mollie Ray and Neill Cameron.
Across the sessions, pupils explored character creation, storytelling, and comic illustration, while also learning more about careers in the creative arts. Through playful exercises and imaginative prompts, pupils were encouraged to experiment freely, think creatively, and discover how simple ideas can evolve into compelling stories.
Rather than striving for the “perfect” drawing, the workshops emphasised confidence, originality, and creative exploration. Pupils quickly discovered that some of the most interesting ideas emerge through curiosity, risk-taking, and imagination.
Alongside the practical activities, Mollie Ray and Neill Cameron also shared insights into their own creative journeys and the important role comics can play in developing literacy, communication, and self-expression.
Experiences such as these reflect the wider purpose of our library and enrichment programme at RSJ: creating opportunities for pupils to explore ideas beyond the classroom and develop the creativity and confidence that will remain increasingly valuable in the modern world.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mollie Ray and Neill Cameron for such an inspiring visit.
