RSJ Students Explore Tech Careers at Google with “Mind the Gap” Program

Students from Rugby School Japan recently had the incredible opportunity to visit Google’s offices and meet with CEO Sundar Pichai, Engineering Director Xinmei Cai, and two other accomplished female engineers. This visit was part of Google’s “Mind the Gap” program, a ten-year initiative aimed at encouraging girls to pursue careers in technology.

The session started off with an inspiring talk by Mr. Pichai, who shared his vision for Google and the importance of diversity in the tech industry. Ms. Cai and the Google Chrome engineers provided insights into their roles and career paths, highlighting the exciting possibilities for women in computer science.

The students were clearly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and contributing to insightful conversations with the Google engineers. The engineers, in turn, offered invaluable career advice and personal anecdotes.

After the session, the students got a glimpse into Google’s innovative work culture through a tour of the offices and hands-on experiences with new technologies, including cutting-edge keyboards. They also had the opportunity to meet popular YouTubers!

The visit concluded with a delicious lunch and generous gift bags. More importantly, the students left feeling informed and inspired about potential future careers in technology.
