Rugby School Japan Excels in CyberFirst Challenge and Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge

Late last term, Rugby School Japan made a significant impact in the prestigious CyberFirst Challenge. Historically only available to UK schools, CyberFirst recently expanded to Japan following a partnership between the two countries, giving Japanese schools the opportunity to take part in this challenging competition.

Out of 67 participating teams across Japan, RSJ secured an impressive four of the top 10 positions—a remarkable achievement that highlights our pupils’ exceptional cybersecurity skills and dedication.

In recognition of this incredible accomplishment, some of RSJ’s top-performing students will soon be visiting the British Embassy for a special celebration. There, they will have the opportunity to meet with cybersecurity experts, learn more about careers in the field, and gain valuable insights into the industry.

Alongside the CyberFirst success, November was also packed with other exciting achievements for RSJ students in the realm of computer science. Earlier in the month, 151 RSJ students participated in the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge, an international competition that attracted nearly 470,000 participants worldwide.

RSJ students performed exceptionally well, scoring higher than the national average in Japan and outperforming many international schools. Most notably, 31 RSJ students ranked in the top 10% globally—an outstanding result that demonstrates the school’s strength in computational thinking and problem-solving.
